The scale of a veil
a bunch of knobs” 21-26 -04-2026 Milan
The Scale of a Veil is a doorknob informed by the 1980s Egyptian play “Keep Your Daughters Locked In”, conceived as a quiet yet charged intervention into the architecture of intimacy, ritual, and control. It addresses the enduring myth of virginity and the irreversible harm it has inflicted on women across cultures, with a particular focus on its presence in parts of the Arab world.
Laylat al-Dukhla, meaning the night of entry, names the consummation night of marriage. Made from porcelain with lace carving, the doorknob resists effortless grip, slowing entry and asking the hand to become conscious of its force & intent.
